No! We have surf sessions for people of all levels. The group lesson generally cater to beginner and early intermediate surfers. Private lessons are a good option for anyone, regardless of how comfortable you are in the ocean, or your surfing skills, as these lessons can be curated to meet your individual needs. If you are proficient in green wave surfing, coaching might be the choice for you! Give me a call if you’re unsure what’s right for you, and I’ll be happy to help you choose the right type of lesson for you!

While you don't need to be a professional swimmer to surf, some basic swimming skills are necessary for safe and enjoyable surfing. You should be somewhat comfortable in the water, able to float, tread water, and possibly even swim a distance if needed. If you are unsure, give me a call and we can work out whats best. Often a private lesson for those less confident in the water is preferred.

Absolutely! In my years, I’ve gotten a lot of people who have already done many lessons during their holidays, and every time, they still learn something new and leave satisfied with the tips and tricks provided! If however you are a bit more of a serious surfer looking to improve your surfing out there catching green waves, a private lesson may be better suited, or we offer surf coaching! Just give me a call or a text and we’ll find you the type of surf session that’s just right for you.

Begin by booking the type of lesson that fits best your needs, timeslot and location! You’ll receive a confirmation email once all the details have been filled (don’t forget to sign your waivers!), 24 hours prior to your lesson, you’ll receive another email confirming the lesson, and the meet up location (we choose the best beach based on the variable daily surf conditions). Then on the big day, you’ll meet us in the parking lot, you’ll receive your wetsuit and all other accessories required (varies seasonally), we’ll head to the beach, spend about 30 minutes talking about ocean safety and practicing standing up on surfboards, and then we’ll head to the ocean to spend between 1 to 1.5 hours in the water, learning surfing, getting advice from your instructor, having the bestest time ever!!!!! And then once we’re sadly out of time, we’ll head back to the lot, where you’ll change out of your wetsuit, and say our goodbyes. From there, you’ll be ready to surf anywhere, but feel free to book with us again in the future if you want to share more good times and get more tips and tricks!

Nope! For group and private lessons, we’ll provide you with all the surf essentials to have a good time out there! If you have your own wetsuit or booties, feel free to use them if that’s more comfortable for you! For coaching sessions, students are generally expected to have their own gear, but if you need to borrow a more advanced board from us, that can be arranged.
-
Not much actually! A bathing suit to wear underneath your wetsuit is the first essential, try to hydrate before your lesson too! During the summer months, flip flops or any other open toed shoe is good to have when walking from the parking lot to the beach. Also feel free to bring a water bottle and a phone! We’ll bring down a dry bag to keep phones dry, so after the lesson, you can take home a quick snap of your surfing adventures! Otherwise, clothes towels, bags and food can stay in your own vehicle!

For safety reasons, we recommend you leave your glasses out of the water. You can use them for the beach portion and then leave them in your instructors safe keeping whilst in the water.

There’s so many options! In the Tofino area, students have a plethora of options to come down to the surf parking lots, your own car is obviously an option, but during summertime, finding parking can sometime take a while, so we encourage people to find alternative modes of transportation. Biking is always nice, there are plenty of bike rental companies in town, and you can use the MUP (multi-use path) that runs all along the main road to get to the beaches parking lots, feel free to reach out for our recommendations on bike rental businesses! Another good option is the free shuttle that runs from downtown Tofino to Long beach. Running from June 27th to September 1st, this free shuttle has many stops along the way to the direct beaches, so it’s easy to hop on from most accommodation providers! For a more detailed schedule, please see this link https://tofino.civicweb.net/document/155876
If you’re coming from Ucluelet, you can use the newly implemented and very reliable West Coast Transit system. Connecting Tofino, First nation communities and Ucluelet, this pay-to-use bus service runs daily and is a great option if your lesson is taking place at Long Beach, Cox Bay or South/North Chesterman!
